BKUS OLDER HOUSE

The project for the reconstruction of the parents' house of the Children's Clinical University Hospital - it was developed within the framework of the charity project "Sunny Days" led by the newspaper "Diena". The project was developed as a place for parents and other family members to stay in the hospital if the child is ill for a long time, and where the parents are also provided with psychological assistance. The project model was created according to examples of foreign experience. In addition to dormitory and hotel-type sleeping rooms, the building also has a common living room, kitchen and laundry.
The project draws attention and shows an example of preserving the wooden heritage as the first example of a renovated wooden building on the territory of a hospital. The architecture of the building is an example of the wooden classicism style with balanced calm proportions and linear volumes, a flat gable roof. The image of the building is a white house - the facade is painted with linseed oil paint in a light tone and the roof is covered with new light-tone tin. The building has been renovated, preserving the facade decor characteristic of the style - horizontal profiled board cladding, window and door frames. Wooden frame doors and casement windows have been made new according to historical models. The interior of the building is characterized by pleasant proportions - high ceilings with an oriel, classic, logical layout, good lighting. The interior of the renovated building is simple and made with natural materials - plastered walls, wooden doors and windows, natural linoleum and stone tile floors. The interiors of the rooms in the corridors and bedrooms are complemented by an ornamental strip painted in the stencil technique, which separates the wall plane from the ceiling under the oriel.
