FINISHED HOUSE

The residential house at Ogļu Street 6 is one of the oldest log buildings in Ķīpsala, the location of the building was already marked on the map of 1790, and the building can be seen on the street facades and map of 1823. Realizing how archaic the building is and at the same time it has remained intact, it inspired enormous awe and concern about losing something valuable by interfering with the reconstruction. As a result of the reconstruction, the building is a dwelling, where layers of different times overlap, unexpected details appear. The reconstruction project fully preserves the existing structure of the building and the division of rooms. In place of the old extension, a new extension has been built on the courtyard side, which retains the original function: an entrance hall, a toilet room, stairs to the attic floor and the basement. An attic floor has been built in the building, and new roof window structures have been created based on analogous existing models in Balasta Dam. The building has been restored to its original clapboard cladding, facade details and brickwork on the plinth. The roof is covered with old clay tiles.
