VILLA LENE

The plot of land for the Villa Lene wooden building is located in Ķīpsala, in a densely built-up block of historical wooden buildings between Ogļu Street, Kaiju Street and Balasta Dam, in the protection zone of UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site No. 852 “Historic Centre of Riga”. The architecture of the building is defined as a modern wooden house in a block of historical wooden houses. The volume of the building respects the scale and heights of the existing building, the sloping roof shape, the rhythmic division of windows, horizontal cladding of boards, without decorative wooden details. The building was built as a prefabricated wooden frame building, industrially manufactured by the Latvian-Norwegian joint venture Husvik, the house is painted gray. The block and the plot have a pronounced dramatic relief, as it is located on a historical dune. The existing plot of land is located in the very center of the block, on the top of the dune. The relief difference between the Ogļu Street elevation and the top of the plot is five meters. A truly suitable building plot for a Norwegian family with three children, who came from a mountainous homeland. The angular shape of the building's plan is determined by the situational plan - a turn towards the entrance. The ends of the elongated building volume open towards the entrance and the river with continuously glazed planes and a terrace arrangement on three levels.
