ZAIGA GAILA'S LECTURE: BUILDING ON THE PAST

For the second year in a row, we invite you to visit the Industrial Heritage Days in the creative quarter “Provodņiks”, organized in collaboration with the Latvian Union of Architects. Throughout the summer season, once every two weeks, at Ganību dambī 63, there will be an opportunity to hear lectures by Latvian and international architects about the architecture of former industrial buildings today, transformation, territory regeneration and revitalization. Projects with an emphasis on experimentation, sensory experiences and research, identity and community building will also be examined, as well as an opportunity to hear more about the features of the characteristic historical style of industrial buildings. Before the lecture at 17:30-18:30, there is an opportunity to go on a tour of the Provodņiks building. The visit is free. On June 14, 2023, from 19:00 to 20:30, the first of the participants will have the opportunity to hear the founder and leading architect of Zaiga Gaile's office, Zaiga Gaile, with a lecture "Building on the Past". Certified architects have the opportunity to receive credit points for participating in the in-person lecture. Barn in Spuņciems - the first project. Reconstruction into a collective farm canteen "Soviet Latvia" (realization - 1978) Barn in Rūmene Manor, Stable and Barn (realization - 2021). 2. Gypsum factory in two phases. Riga, Balasta dambis 72. Implementation – 2004 (first phase) and 2011 (second phase). 3. Reconstruction of Kaltene Pumping Station into a holiday home. Implementation – 2010 4. Liepāja Liquor Factory – reconstruction proposal for a business center. Liepāja, Bāriņu Street 1, 1a. Project – 2006 5. Ventspils Beer Brewery – reconstruction proposal for a family residence and art gallery. Ventspils, Zvanu Street 5. Project – 2006 6. Tukums Beer Brewery – reconstruction into a cultural space “Tukku Magi”. Tukums, Pasta Street 26. Project – 2017. 7. “Zuzeum” – reconstruction of the former Cork Factory, later Sapņu Fabrika, into an art center. Riga, Lāčplēša Street 101. Project – 2016 8. Spīķeris – reconstruction of a warehouse building into a residential building. Riga, Aldaru Street 10. Implementation – 2011 10. Riga Sewage Pumping Station – reconstruction of the restaurant “Sūkņu stacija”. Riga, Eksporta Street 2b. Project – 2007 11. “Mākonis” – reconstruction of the former carpentry building into an office building. Riga, Klīveru Street 3 . 1st round of implementation – 2022. 12. Needle Factory in Kuldīga – reconstruction of the factory building complex into a service design school. Kuldīga, Kalpaka Street 2 and 4. Implementation – 2022. 13. New Riga Theatre Ensemble (in the building complex - the Ķeta Foundry building and the Copper Mint building). Riga, Lāčplēša Street 25. Implementation – 2022. The lecture will take place on the 2nd floor of the Provodņiks creative quarter, access from Aptiekas Street, north side, entrance A.
